Daughters

Every woman has been one, every man knows one. But what is the role of a daughter and how does it affect how we behave and how we view ourselves? Through our research and development process, which has involved examining our own and others' perspectives, we've realised more and more the complexities of such questions. Our piece therefore explores the state of daughterdom and acknowledges the contradictory and invisible forces that women contend with as daughters: the visceral ties of love and need for our mothers, and the sometimes urgent desire to be distinct, separate and unique...

The piece is comprised of fragments, some humorous, some painful, that nevertheless combine to create a coherent whole. This is a show that every woman will be able to identify with, and every man will find entertaining and thought-provoking.

Canvas

"I felt myself to be both the image/surface and the artist working on that painting simultaneously. The Canvas was like my own skin; I was the painting and the painting was me. " Judy Chicago

This movement-based solo performance focuses on a woman's attempt to explore the gap between how she appears and who she is. It questions the degree of control a woman has over her own identity and examines the extent to which attitudes of desperation, pragmatism and humour can unmake or reaffirm the marks and masks we wear.
